I Tested Selena Gomez’s True To Me Foundation For 14 Hours And Here’s How It Works

Selena Gomez has finally revealed the secret of her wedding look. On March 16, the “Sunset Blvd” singer shared on Instagram that she’s been wearing Rare Beauty’s new True to Myself Natural Matte Longwear Foundation for months.

The basic premise of putting yourself first and putting yourself in a position to create a center has become Gomez’s domain, whether she’s walking the runway or on the red carpet. And now, fans can finally get their hands on the Rare Beauty foundation starting on April 2. “I’ve been waiting a long time to share it with you, and I’m so happy that I finally can,” Gomez shared in her post. The True to Myself Foundation is a 3-in-1 product designed to prime, cover, and set your beauty look with a matte finish.

As someone with oily skin, I’ve been on the hunt for a foundation that can tone down my natural shine and last all day. When I saw Rare Beauty announce this new formula, I had to see if it was really worth the hype. After receiving the first sample, I put Rare Beauty’s True to Myself Natural Matte Longwear Foundation to the test on a hot Los Angeles day that included a morning media event and a late-night red carpet.

Quick facts:

  • Price: $38
  • Who is eligible for this: Anyone looking for a minimally invasive way to take care of themselves.
  • What I like: It’s super easy to apply, really matte, and lasts almost all day.
  • What I don’t like: The locking function is good in theory, but there are still leaks.
  • My details: 4.8/5

Package:

The product was made without a cap, because according to Gomez on TikTok, she hates them. Instead, the package has a lock for the pump to prevent it from getting all over the place when you’re traveling – at least, that’s what it’s meant to do. I found that even with the lock on, my foundation leaked a little when the pump was pressed. I don’t see this as completely leakproof for my makeup bag, and I wish there was still some kind of cap or cover.

Plus, I love the convenience of the pump and that each foundation bottle is only one ounce, travel size.

First Impressions:

Along with my True to Me Natural Matte Longwear Foundation, I was given both the Soft Touch Makeup Blending Sponge, and Rare Beauty’s Liquid Touch Foundation Brush for application. I also tried applying makeup without tools and using only my hands. I have found that all three methods are good for different reasons.

The brush really helped to get the foundation done in as little time as possible, and it looked very covered. The sponge, on the other hand, was messier and gave a more blended, natural look up close. If you can find both tools, I highly recommend using a brush for application and a sponge for mixing. However, both work well on their own.

Rare Beauty

For anyone who doesn’t want to use a brush ($30) or a sponge ($15), you can easily apply the foundation with your hands. It may not be easy to mix with your fingers, but it works just fine. This may be the way I do it when I’m in a hurry or feeling lazy.

As for the actual protection, the foundation went on matte at the beginning of the day and looks great without a primer or setting spray. Also, you don’t need a lot of product. Just one pump was enough to cover my face and neck in the evening when I exfoliated my skin to cover blemishes and red spots.

On my first day testing the True To Me Natural Matte Longwear Foundation, I had an early morning event at the Walt Disney Studios. We were out and about for the announcement at the D23 Expo, where Disney revealed Anne Hathaway and the Jonas Brothers are being named Legends this year. Even in the unusual summer heat, my foundation stayed put and looked great while taking pictures with Mickey Mouse.

It was a long day of work after that, and I didn’t have time to redo my makeup before I went. Laguna Beach the first conference meeting in Santa Monica that evening. I didn’t need to be touched, though. My foundation still looked great after hours of running around in warm weather. The only thing that changed was that it was no longer matte. There was definitely a shine to my oily areas that I could easily fix with some powder.

Is Real Rare Beauty Me Natural Matte Longwear Worth It?

Rare Beauty

After my 14-hour wear day, I tried the True to Me Natural Matte Longwear Foundation for the weekend and found it had the same results every day. Overall, Rare Beauty’s new foundation offers long-lasting performance and provides a nice, sheer coverage that an acne-prone girl like me really appreciates. It may not be completely matte for the rest of the day, but the glow I got after a few hours looked more deliberate than just greasy.

I’m usually very lazy about my makeup when I’m not going to a work event or the red carpet, so I just apply a tinted moisturizer. One of my favorites is Rare Beauty’s Positive Tinted Moisturizer, but True to My Natural Matte Longwear Foundation is easy to use. As much as I loved it, I have to say it’s totally worth it. My only suggestions to make it a perfect 5 out of 5 is something to cover the mouth of the pump to prevent leakage and a little SPF as a tinted moisturizer for next summer.

About me:

In my role as a blogger for Elite Daily, I try to find the latest beauty products from all the celebrities. When I’m not modeling something new, many of my go-to items include Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty range. As a carefree girl, my everyday look usually just requires a tinted moisturizer, blush, mascara, and whatever lip balm or cream is in my purse at the moment.
