Polimoda Launches Film and Photo Fashion Show

The New Course Aims to Train Artists at the Crossroads of Culture, Technology and Fashion.

Polimoda has partnered with Fondazione Sozzani to launch a new Undergraduate School in Fashion Film & Photography, a two-year program that will start in October and is focused on training a new generation of visual storytellers through fashion film and photography. Created in collaboration with one of the cultural institutions with the power to work at the intersection of photography, fashion, and visual arts, this course reflects the growing need for artists who combine technical expertise with cultural awareness and a deep vision.

The program arrives at a moment of profound change in visual communication, where the acceleration of images, the rise of artificial intelligence, and the emergence of digital information change the boundaries between the creator and the device. In this changing world, the role of fashion photography is being redefined, calling for professionals who can not only present content but also interpret and give cultural meaning to images.

“Fashion photography has a value far beyond the aesthetic: it is a cultural act, a way of expressing the present.” Today, in the age of AI-generated images, this awareness is more necessary than ever. vision to help shape its growth. ” – Massimiliano Giornetti, CEO of Polimoda

Organized in a comprehensive manner, the course combines technical training with cultural studies. Students will develop skills across photography, filmmaking, story writing, production, and post-production, as well as a solid foundation in contemporary visual culture and aesthetics. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers including fashion photographer, fashion filmmaker, cinematographer, digital artist, video editor, production manager, and digital content producer. The program includes 600 hours of annual study and is taught in English.

Fondazione Sozzani will contribute directly to the course through guest lectures, workshops, project work, and access to its archives and exhibitions. The partnership also presents opportunities for discussions with curators and industry experts, while Sara Sozzani Maino, the Foundation’s Creative Director, will help create the program and participate in portfolio reviews.

“Cultivating the future of images in fashion means combining new trends and traditions, valuing archival research… building a clear future.” – Sara Sozzani Maino, Creative Director of Fondazione Sozzani.

Founded in Milan in 2016 by Carla Sozzani, the Foundation continues the legacy of Galleria Carla Sozzani, active since 1990, as a platform dedicated to photography, fashion and art. Its involvement expands the program beyond academic training, embedding it within a broader cultural environment that links art and research, publishing and contemporary practice.

At Polimoda, photography is already connected to all processes including design, styling, art direction and communication. Students will have access to professional photography studios at the Manifattura Campus, as well as the Polimoda Library, one of the most extensive fashion libraries in Europe, supporting technical development and visual research.

Two scholarships of € 14,000 each will be available for the start, and applications are open until April 17. The program will be officially presented during the Polimoda Open Day on May 7 and 8, where prospective students can explore the campus and participate in a studio film.
