Consider this Low-Maintenance Lip Liner Technique for Your Shortcut to Perfectly Hot Lips.

Paying attention to red carpet beauty trends is part and parcel of my job as a beauty editor, and it’s clear that all of the best celebrity looks at awards season had one thing in common – a bold lip. Yes, while you may think of lip liner as being there to define your pout and add some definition, this time it’s about taking a simpler approach to your makeup.

Slightly tousled, and pleasantly muted, it’s makeup artist Nina Park who undoubtedly pioneered this smudged liner look. As a makeup novice, the fact that matte lips look wearable—and don’t require a steady hand—means this is one trend I can see going from the red carpet to real life with complete ease. Besides, it would look just as good with bare skin and smooth mascara as it does with a full face of beauty.
